We are committed to providing decent living and support for people with Special Needs.
New Dawn Home was founded by Mrs. Olorunfunmi Ogunlari-Alao in 2009.
This was borne out of decades of providing care, education and dignity for the less privileged in the community.
New Dawn Home is located at No.1 Technical College Road, Ejioku (Lagelu Local Government) a town on the outskirts of Ibadan of Oyo State, in Nigeria.
New Dawn Home facilities sits on 1 acre of Land with built buildings used for accommodation/dormitory and others for classes and vocational workshops.
New Dawn Home cares for children and youth between the ages of 5 – 40 Years.
These are kids with Physically and Mentally Challenged (Cerebral Palsy, Hearing Impaired, Speech Disorders, Down Syndrome etc.)
Mrs. Ogunlari-Alao started her career as a Teacher in School for Special
Needs Children in 1988. Upon realizing that these kids do not regularly attend school due to their various difficulties, She started a trial residential program in 1990 at Lagelu Special School in Lalupon. The goal was to provide accommodation and care for these kids within the school premises.
Her efforts were funded privately and after 7 years of success, the local government stepped in to support fully and built a hostel and pay for the 6 caregivers she had.
In 2004, She took this model to Ibadan town to care for and provide access to disabled children in Ibadan. She started a trial Special School with no boarding house and once the government noticed her success with the school, the Government came in again with full support and this became Lagelu Special School 2 and currently have over 150 students attending!
Mrs. Ogunlari-Alao continue her work for bringing dignity and care to the disabled in the community. She retired from Public Sevice in 2013 and took NEW DAWN HOME into full operations since then, entirely funded privately.
New Dawn provides full time accommodation for the kids. The Hostel contains beds and beddings for their comfort and we keep striving to make them feel comfortable.
We continue to see your support to improve the accommodation facilities.
